Advancing Ayurveda: New Research Institute Launched

In a significant move to enhance healthcare and promote traditional medicine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Rohini, Delhi. This initiative is seen as a pivotal moment for Ayurveda, which the Prime Minister described as โ€œAyurvedaโ€™s next big leap.โ€ The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Ayush, and other dignitaries. This new facility aims to bolster research and healthcare services in Ayurveda, making it more accessible to the public.

Government Commitment to Traditional Medicine

During the event, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to making healthcare accessible, especially for the underprivileged. He noted that the government is actively promoting traditional Indian medicine systems, including AYUSH and Ayurveda. Over the past decade, the AYUSH system has expanded its reach to over 100 countries, showcasing its global significance. Modi also highlighted the establishment of the first World Health Organization (WHO) institution dedicated to traditional medicine in India, marking a historic milestone for the country.

The Prime Minister recently inaugurated the second phase of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, further demonstrating the government’s dedication to advancing Ayurvedic practices. He expressed his hope that India could become the world’s health and wellness capital. Modi introduced a special AYUSH visa facility to facilitate foreign citizens seeking Ayurvedic treatments in India. This initiative has already benefited hundreds of foreign nationals, showcasing the growing interest in traditional Indian medicine.

The Significance of CARI

The Central Ayurveda Research Institute, established in 1979, has been a leader in clinical research focused on Ayurveda, particularly in areas like Preventive Cardiology and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Until now, the institute operated from rented premises in Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi. The new facility, spanning 2.92 acres with an investment of โ‚น187 crore, represents a significant advancement for the institute. It will feature a 100-bed research hospital dedicated to Ayurveda research and community healthcare services.

Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for Ayush, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his leadership. He stated that this facility would drive research and quality healthcare, positively impacting millions of lives across the nation. The new building will include various specialized clinics, ensuring a comprehensive healthcare experience for patients.

Future Prospects and Infrastructure

The new CARI facility will consist of four main blocks: the Administrative Block, Outpatient Department (OPD) Block, Inpatient Department (IPD) Block, and a dedicated Treatment Block. This infrastructure is designed to provide a seamless healthcare experience. The institute will offer specialized clinics in geriatrics, pediatrics, ear-nose-throat (ENT), arthritis, preventive cardiology, and eye care. Additionally, it will provide traditional treatments such as Panchakarma and Kshara sutra, combined with modern diagnostic technologies.

CARI aims to revolutionize research and patient care in Ayurveda, positioning itself as a global leader in integrating traditional and modern healthcare practices. The facility will also house advanced clinical laboratories, physiotherapy units, and a well-equipped library to support research and educational activities. With its prestigious National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditations, CARI is committed to maintaining high-quality standards in healthcare.

The establishment of the Central Ayurveda Research Institute marks a significant step forward in promoting Ayurveda and traditional medicine in India. With its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to research, CARI is poised to make a lasting impact on healthcare in the country and beyond.
