Microsoft Unveils Edge Game Assist for Gamers

Microsoft has recently launched Edge Game Assist, a specialized in-game browser designed for PC gamers. Announced on Friday, this innovative tool aims to enhance the gaming experience by providing quick access to game hints, guides, and other essential resources without interrupting gameplay. Currently available in preview mode, Edge Game Assist is a customized version of the Edge browser, optimized for seamless integration with popular games. It is accessible to PC players running Windows 11 with Microsoft Edge Beta 132. This new feature reflects Microsoft’s commitment to improving the gaming experience by addressing the needs of players who often turn to the web for assistance while gaming.

Edge Game Assist Launched

Edge Game Assist can be easily accessed through the Game Bar overlay on Windows. This allows players to browse the internet without having to leave their game. According to Microsoft, a staggering 88 percent of PC gamers utilize a web browser while playing. They often seek help for game strategies, track their progress, connect with friends, or view media content. However, switching between the game and a web browser can disrupt the gaming experience. Players typically have to pull out their phones or use the Alt-Tab function to switch to the desktop, which takes them away from the action. This is particularly challenging for those without multiple monitors, as they cannot see their game while searching for information online.

With Edge Game Assist, players can stay immersed in their gaming experience. The browser appears as an overlay on top of the game, providing game-specific tips and guides tailored to what the user is currently playing. Additionally, Game Assist remembers browsing data from both PC and mobile versions of Edge. This includes favorites, history, cookies, and form fills. The in-game browser also offers quick access to social services like Discord, Twitch, and Spotify, making it easier for players to connect with their friends and enjoy multimedia content while gaming.

Game Assist Features

Edge Game Assist functions as a widget within the Game Bar, allowing users to pin it above their game. This feature enables players to watch gameplay guide videos while actively participating in their game. To access the Game Bar, users can press Win+G, which brings up various in-game widgets. These widgets include Xbox Social for connecting with friends, tracking achievements, capturing screenshots, and adjusting audio settings. Players can also monitor game performance and access services like Spotify and Teams.

One of the standout features of Game Assist is its ability to be resized and repositioned on the screen. This flexibility allows users to customize their gaming setup according to their preferences. The in-game browser also includes game-aware features, displaying a unique set of gaming tabs and sidebar applications. When users open a new tab, it highlights helpful resources such as tips and hints specifically for the game they are playing. Currently, the preview feature is localized in English and supports a selection of popular PC games, including Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV, Fortnite, and more. Microsoft plans to optimize Game Assist based on player feedback and will continue to add tips and guides for additional games over time.

How to Access Game Assist

Edge Game Assist is available as an opt-in public preview. To try out this new feature, users must ensure that their Windows and Game Bar are up to date. Additionally, they need to be using the Beta or Preview channel of Microsoft Edge. Setting Edge Beta as the default browser is also necessary. To install the Game Assist widget, users should navigate to Edge, click on Settings and more (โ€œโ€ฆโ€) > Settings, and search for Game Assist in the search box. From there, they can select the option to install the widget.

As gaming continues to evolve, tools like Edge Game Assist represent a significant step forward in enhancing the overall experience for players. By providing easy access to vital information without disrupting gameplay, Microsoft is helping gamers stay engaged and informed. This innovative browser feature is set to change how players interact with their games and the online resources available to them.
