Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, is currently on a three-day visit to Nagaland from 13th to 15th October 2024. This visit is part of the Prime Minister’s initiative to send ministers across the country, especially to the Northeast, to engage with local communities, listen to their concerns, and work towards a Vikasit Bharat (Developed India).
Key Meeting with Nagaland’s Chief Minister
On 13th October, Shri Oram held an important meeting with Nagaland’s Chief Minister, Shri Neiphiu Rio, at his residence in Sovima. They discussed several key issues, including the use of funds for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation. Shri Oram stressed the need to create world-class EMRS schools in Nagaland to improve education for tribal students. He also emphasized the importance of promoting an entrepreneurship ecosystem to boost economic growth in the region.
Engaging with Local Tribal Communities
On 14th October, Shri Oram visited the Zunheboto district and addressed local tribal communities at an event held in the Multi-purpose Hall. Visit to Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) and Adi Bazar
Shri Oram also visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Diphupar. He was accompanied by Shri H. Tovihoto Ayemi, the Advisor for Tribal Affairs, Nagaland. During his visit, Shri Oram interacted with students and staff to understand how the school could be improved to provide better education for tribal children.
Afterward, Shri Oram visited Adi Bazar, where he engaged with local vendors and artisans. He spoke to them about their challenges and explored ways in which the government’s schemes could support their economic growth. The minister emphasized the importance of empowering artisans and small vendors by providing them with better resources and opportunities.
