Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmersโ€™ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, lauded the central governmentโ€™s initiatives to prioritize farmers, highlighting their integral role in the nationโ€™s development. During a program addressing farmers invited to the Independence Day celebrations, Shri Chouhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for inviting farmers to participate in the historic eventโ€”a first in Indiaโ€™s post-independence history.

Shri Chouhan remarked that while previous governments had neglected farmers, the current administration has placed them at the forefront of national development. He commended the Prime Minister for recognizing the contributions of farmers in his speeches and policies, asserting that “farmers are the heartbeat of the country.”

The event also marked the launch of the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS), aimed at equipping farmers with timely information to combat crop pests and enhance agricultural productivity. Shri Chouhan emphasized the importance of connecting farmers with scientific research and announced the launch of “Kisano Ki Baat,” a monthly radio program where scientists and agricultural officials will provide crucial insights to farmers.

The Union Minister detailed the governmentโ€™s ongoing efforts to support the agricultural sector, citing the significant increase in the budget for farmers from Rs. 27,000 crores to Rs. 1.52 lakh crores. He highlighted key initiatives such as the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, under which Rs. 3.24 lakh crore has been deposited directly into farmers’ accounts, and the PM Fasal Bima Yojna, the world’s largest crop insurance scheme.

Shri Chouhan urged farmers to embrace natural farming to improve soil health, revealing that a new mission to promote this practice is in the pipeline. He also advocated for the formation of more Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to diversify agricultural activities and increase farmers’ incomes.
