India Navy Joins Goa Liberation Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The state of Goa celebrates its Liberation Day every year on the 19th of December. On 19 December 2021, Goa celebrated its Diamond Jubilee celebrations to mark 60 years since the state was liberated. In commemoration of this occasion, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid a wreath at the memorial to martyrs, Azad Maidan. At the ceremony, a 100-man tri-service Guard of Honor was presented along with buglers playing ‘The Last Post‘.

Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed a Parade of Sails by boats of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and civil agencies, and a flypast by aircraft of the Indian Navy, from the beach at Miramar.

As part of the Diamond Jubilee events, the Indian Navy coordinated the activities under the leadership of Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, and Rear Admiral Philipose G Pynumootil, Flag Officer Commanding Goa Area.

INS Mormugao — India’s second stealth destroyer of the P15B class began its sea trial on 19 December 2021.  The vessel is named after the port city of Mormugao in Goa. The date of sea trial is considerably selected on the day when Goa celebrate its 60th Independence Day.
