Ministry of Heavy Industries appoints Engineers India Limited as Independent Engineer for PLI -ACC Scheme

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has awarded the construction of 30 GWh capacity to three beneficiaries, namely Ola Cell Technologies Pvt. Ltd., ACC Energy Storage Pvt Ltd. and Reliance New Energy Battery Storage Ltd. and is in the process of awarding another 20 GWh, with the aim of reaching a production of 50 GWh by 2030. To monitor the progress of the works of the selected beneficiaries, the Ministry has appointed Engineers India Limited (EIL) as Independent Engineers. Testing of the prototype is nearing completion by these beneficiaries and commercial production is likely to begin progressively in phases, in fiscal year 2024.

In line with the programme’s vision to ensure national added value, all 3 beneficiaries are developing advanced chemistry cell technology, which is in advanced stages of development. The total investment till date by these beneficiary organizations has reached up to โ‚น2090 Crore. Ola Cell Technologies is opening its manufacturing facility in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu while ACC Energy Storage is opening its facility in Dharwad, Karnataka and Reliance New Energy Battery Storage is opening a facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat, generating employment opportunities for local residents. Reliance New Energy Limited also reported that it has acquired three overseas companies operating in the ACC manufacturing business.

Promoting the vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Amanirbhar Bharat’, the Ministry of Heavy Industries launched the Advance Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery storage Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program in June 2021 for the creation of Giga- Full-scale ACC manufacturing facilities in India with a budget outlay of โ‚น18,100 Crore. The scheme aims to strengthen the ecosystem for electric mobility and battery storage in the country and aims to add to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
