Shri Kiren Rijiju says Samudrayaan project aims to send three personnel to 6 km depth in a submersible to study the deep sea resources

Union Minister of Earth Sciences Shri Kiren Rijiju said today the Samudrayan Project it aims to send three people to a depth of 6000m in a submersible, to study deep sea resources and for biodiversity assessment. Stating this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, he said the project will not disturb the ecosystem as the submersible is being used for resource exploration.

Shri Rijiju informed the House that the Deep Ocean Mission supports the government’s blue economy policy which has a potential for the growth of the country’s GDP and provides sustainable utilization of ocean resources for the country’s economic growth, better livelihoods and jobs and ocean ecosystem health.
