OV Digital Desk

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will wave Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express on 29 May at 12.00 noon via video conference.

The state of the art Vande Bharat Express will provide the people of the region with the means to travel with speed and comfort. It will also boost tourism in the region. By connecting Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri, the train will help save about one hour of travel time, compared to the current faster train linking the two locations. Vande Bharat will cover the journey in 5 hours 30 minutes, while the current fastest train takes 6 hours 30 minutes to cover the same journey.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate 182 km of new electrified sections. This will help provide pollution-free transport with trains running at higher speeds and shorter train journey times. He will also open the gates for electric-powered trains to enter Meghalaya.

The PM will also inaugurate a newly built DEMU/MEMU warehouse at Lumding in Assam. This new facility will help keep DEMU rakes running in this region, leading to improved operational feasibility.
