India to Host World Circular Economy Forum 2026 in Gandhinagar
India is set to host the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from September 15 to 18, 2026. Marking a significant milestone as the first WCEF in South Asia, the forum will open with a joint inauguration by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, and Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel. Themed ‘Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity’, this international gathering promises to be a pivotal moment for environmental governance.
Key Participants and Objectives
The inaugural session will also feature prominent figures such as Gujarat’s Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Shri Arjunbhai Modhwadia; the Finnish Ambassador to India, H.E. Mr. Mikko Kivikoski; and Ms. Marieke Spijkerboer from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate of the Netherlands, along with senior officials from both the Indian and Gujarat governments.
The main goal of WCEF 2026 is to highlight India’s initiatives in promoting circularity and fostering international collaboration. The forum is expected to attract over 2,000 participants from more than 65 countries, including business leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, policymakers, and academics. This level of engagement aims to enhance global collaboration and spur discussions around circular finance and private sector investment.
Forum Sessions and Exhibitions
On September 15 and 16, attendees can look forward to four plenaries and 16 thematic sessions covering diverse topics like artificial intelligence, energy production, sustainable products, and youth leadership. Additionally, an expo featuring over 125 national and international exhibitors will demonstrate practical circular solutions developed by startups and innovations ready for investment.
In tandem with WCEF, the Board of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10 YFP) will hold its in-person meeting on September 15, marking India’s recent role as Co-Chair of the 10 YFP Board.
Global Collaboration and Closing Ceremony
From September 17 to 18, a series of 80 accelerator sessions will be independently organized by global collaborators, both online and in person at various locations worldwide. The forum will conclude with a closing ceremony attended by Shri Arjunbhai Modhwadia and other dignitaries, including Finland’s Minister of Climate and the Environment, Ms. Sari Multala. The ceremony will feature a formal handover to the next host, accompanied by a message that emphasizes embracing circular economy principles to foster a more sustainable global economy.
