New Leadership Appointed to National Commission for Safai Karamcharis
The Government of India has announced key appointments within the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK), aiming to enhance support for marginalized communities. Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana takes the helm as Chairperson, with Shri Kaishab Bihari stepping in as Vice-Chairperson. The Commission will also include Members Shri Manoj Kumar Balmiki, Smt. Sushma Gaudiyal, and Shri Ravi Ramu Kalose. Their terms will last until March 31, 2028, completing the current commission’s tenure.
Chairperson’s Background
Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana brings a wealth of experience to his new role, holding a Master’s degree in Economics. His impressive background includes significant involvement in social work focused on the empowerment of Scheduled Caste communities. Before this appointment, he served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Safai Karamchari Commission in Uttarakhand and has previously contributed as an Independent Director at NHPC. He has also engaged with the Central Monitoring Committee established under the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
Vice-Chairperson’s Contributions
Shri Kaishab Bihari, the new Vice-Chairperson, also possesses a Master’s degree in Economics. As a farmer from Odisha, he has actively worked towards the welfare and uplift of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. His organizational roles in various initiatives for community welfare demonstrate his commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged populations.
Members with Diverse Expertise
Joining the leadership team, Shri Manoj Kumar Balmiki, a seasoned entrepreneur, has a history of serving on the Uttar Pradesh State Safai Karamchari Commission. His roles have focused on public welfare and promoting the implementation of vital welfare schemes.
Smt. Sushma Gaudiyal, an academician from Bareilly College, holds a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Kumaun University. A returning member of the NCSK, her research interests encompass Dalit literature, women’s empowerment, and contemporary socio-political issues, making her contributions vital to the Commission’s objectives.
Lastly, Shri Ravi Ramu Kalose, a retired municipal engineer with a diploma in civil engineering, has a substantial background in supporting the welfare and development of Safai Karamcharis. His ongoing commitment includes addressing grievances and facilitating access to government benefits for these communities.
