India and France Boost Space Cooperation Ahead of Major Summits
In a significant development for international space collaboration, Dr. Jitendra Singh, India’s Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, virtually met with France’s Minister for Higher Education, Research, and Space, Prof. Philippe Baptiste. The two leaders discussed advancing cooperation between their nations in space, specifically focusing on human spaceflight, cutting-edge technologies, and enhanced collaboration between their respective space agencies and industries.
This meeting set the stage for upcoming events, including the International Space Summit scheduled for September 9-10, 2026, in Paris, and the Bengaluru Space Expo set for September 7-9, 2026. Both ministers explored India’s involvement in the Paris Summit and highlighted France’s anticipated contribution to the Bengaluru event. Prof. Baptiste is slated to visit India later this month for further discussions.
Strengthening Ties in Space Exploration
Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed enthusiasm for India’s participation in the International Space Summit, emphasizing its potential to solidify the long-standing partnership between India and France in space exploration. The summit aims to address critical topics, including space science, technology applications, the space economy, and maintaining secure channels in space operations, providing an ideal forum for dialogue and collaboration.

Prof. Philippe Baptiste expressed France’s eagerness to strengthen and expedite the existing cooperation with India in the domain of space. He acknowledged India’s proposed video message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the summit and reinforced the need for ongoing consultations regarding the summit’s declarations.

The dialogue also covered France’s involvement in the Bengaluru Space Expo and the possibilities for greater interactions between the two nations’ space agencies, industries, and emerging ecosystems. Prof. Baptiste’s visit to India from September 28-30, 2026, is anticipated, including a tour of ISRO facilities in Bengaluru and a meeting with Dr. Singh.
With nearly six decades of collaboration between India and France in space, their partnership has seen joint missions like Megha-Tropiques and SARAL. Both countries aim to leverage this historical cooperation to enhance Earth observation and climate-related initiatives.
