Na Hong-jin’s “HOPE” Set to Premiere in India on September 25 in Multiple Languages
Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin is set to make a grand return to feature filmmaking with his upcoming sci-fi action thriller, HOPE. Scheduled for release in Indian theatres on September 25, 2026, the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, and Hollywood stars Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender. Audiences across India will be able to enjoy the film in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Korean.
Na Hong-jin, known for his acclaimed works such as The Chaser, The Yellow Sea, and The Wailing, has crafted a genre-driven narrative that intertwines science fiction, survival, and action. HOPE marks his first feature film in a decade, and it promises to deliver a thrilling cinematic experience.
The Story of HOPE
Set in the fictional Hope Harbor, a remote village near the Demilitarized Zone, the film’s plot unfolds as residents report sightings of a mysterious creature. What begins as an unusual occurrence soon escalates into a dire situation, forcing local authorities to confront the emerging threat.
Na Hong-jin elaborated on the film’s concept, stating, “With HOPE, I wanted to create a film that begins with the primal fear of encountering an unknown creature and gradually expands into a story about survival, human instinct and the consequences of fear.” He expressed his excitement for Indian audiences, saying, “We wanted the world of the film to feel both immediate and unpredictable, while also giving the audience the scale and spectacle of a large cinematic experience. I’m excited for audiences in India to experience this world on the big screen.”
Festival Recognition and Box Office Success
HOPE made a significant mark at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where it was selected for Competition and contended for the prestigious Palme d’Or. This selection highlights Na Hong-jin’s continued prominence in the film industry, as it is his fourth consecutive feature to be invited to Cannes, following his previous works.
The film also achieved remarkable success at the South Korean box office, recording over 330,000 admissions on its opening day. This impressive figure made it the biggest opening day for a film in South Korea in 2026. Additionally, HOPE has secured distribution in more than 200 territories worldwide.

The Indian release of HOPE is being managed by Star Entertainment, which aims to bring the film to a diverse audience in five languages.
