New Initiative to Strengthen Family Bonds Launched in India
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) is set to enhance intergenerational relationships across the country by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission (RKM). The signing ceremony will take place at Ramakrishna Mission in Paharganj, New Delhi, tomorrow in the presence of key dignitaries, including Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar.
This pioneering initiative, titled ‘Creating Intergenerational Bonding,’ aims to fortify emotional and cultural connections between children, parents, and grandparents. Central to this initiative are play-based, evidence-informed activities that will be integrated into the school system, promoting enriched family dynamics and cultural understanding.
A Vision for Inclusive Development
The program aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of nurturing respect for elders and fostering inclusive development, reflecting the essence of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.’ The initiative recognizes that true progress comes when all generations advance in unison.
Implementation Across Schools
Under this collaboration, a robust design and implementation model will be rolled out in 200 pilot schools nationwide. This program will feature innovative Co-Learning Games, a bilingual Resource Centre website, and a teacher certification process. The pilot aims not only to test the initiative but also to provide a foundation for potential nationwide expansion.
Complementing Senior Welfare Initiatives
This new initiative is set to complement existing senior citizen welfare programs such as the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) and the Elderline helpline. It will create avenues for senior citizens to share their wisdom and values, assisting parents in bridging the gap between traditional and modern lifestyles while ensuring that children remain grounded in their culture and develop emotional security.
