September 2026 Bank Holidays: State-wise Schedule of Bank Closures

September will see a series of bank holidays across India, impacting customers who rely on physical branch services. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, these closures will vary by state and city, meaning that not all banks will be closed nationwide on the same days. Customers are advised to check their specific branch schedules before visiting, especially for services that require in-person attendance.

Bank Closures in September

On September 4, banks will close in several states, including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, due to Janmashtami. Following this, on September 11, banks in Rajasthan will shut down for elections in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation. Assam will observe a bank holiday on September 12 for Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.

Further closures are scheduled for September 14, when banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa will be closed for Ganesh Chaturthi. On September 15, banks in Gujarat and Odisha will close for Samvatsari and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Additional holidays include September 21 for Janmotsav in Assam and Kerala, September 22 for Karma Puja in Jharkhand, September 23 for the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji in Jammu & Kashmir, and September 25 for Indrajatra in Sikkim.

Availability of Banking Services

While bank branches will be closed on these holidays, customers can still access various banking services. ATMs, UPI, internet banking, and mobile banking will remain operational for routine transactions, although some services may be subject to scheduled maintenance. However, services that require a visit to a physical branch, such as document submission and account-related requests, will not be available during these closures.
