Transforming India’s Professional Services: Tech for Professionals Workshop
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) hosted the “Tech for Professionals” Workshop in New Delhi on August 27, 2026, aimed at strengthening India’s digital infrastructure for professional services. This one-day workshop, supported by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), brought together an array of stakeholders including policymakers, regulators, technology firms, and academic experts to discuss how shared digital resources can enhance technology adoption across the professional services landscape.
The workshop commenced with an opening address from Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General & CEO of IICA, who shared insights regarding the MCA and IICA’s efforts to modernize the domestic professional services sector through technology. Joint Secretary Rahul Jain followed with a theme address, reinforcing the need to leverage technology and shared resources to bolster the capabilities of professional service firms.
Addressing the Importance of Digital Infrastructure
Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil, the Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, graced the event as the chief guest. In her address, she highlighted the critical need for a robust domestic professional services ecosystem, especially as India aims for broader developmental goals. Dr. Govil stressed the increasing importance of technology in delivering auditing, compliance, and consulting services.
Foundation for Shared Digital Public Goods
The workshop built on previous consultations by the MCA and IICA, which included the formation of a Sub-Committee on Digital Public Good in April 2026. This sub-committee’s findings led to the proposal of a government-backed shared digital ecosystem to ensure equitable access to advanced technology and structured professional knowledge. The proposed framework emphasizes three main layers: curated technology access, capability development, and knowledge infrastructure.
In-Depth Discussions on Technology Implementation
Divided into informative technical sessions, the workshop welcomed industry experts for discussions. The first session focused on the relevance and feasibility of shared digital infrastructure in professional services, moderated by Shri Richard Rekhy. Subsequent sessions examined the contributions of technology firms, the adaptation of supervisory technology systems, and practical insights into tech deployment.
Notable panelists included prominent figures from across the tech and consultancy domains, such as Shri Rajesh Ranjan from Google and Shri Sunil Gupta from Yotta Data Services. Each session aimed to address the technological gaps in India’s professional ecosystem and to explore models for affordable access and implementation.
A Vision for the Future
Overall, the workshop fostered a collaborative atmosphere, recognizing the significance of enhancing access to technology and strengthening digital capabilities among small and medium practices. Participants discussed the need for interoperability and security while focusing on building upon existing systems rather than duplicating them.
As MCA continues to develop a digital ecosystem tailored for professional services, this workshop marks a significant step towards empowering domestic firms to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven environment. The initiative, managed by the School of Corporate Governance & Public Policy at IICA, aims to facilitate a better-integrated framework for professional services in India.
