Rajasthan Embraces Green Road Technology with MSS+ Innovation

In a groundbreaking move for sustainable infrastructure, the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) unveiled its innovative Modified Mix Seal Surfacing Plus (MSS+) Technology to Mr. V. Srinivas, IAS, Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, at the Rajasthan Secretariat on August 7, 2026. This development marks a significant leap towards environmentally friendly and cost-effective road construction and maintenance practices in the state.

During a technical presentation, Mr. Satish Pandey, Senior Principal Scientist and Head of the Flexible Pavement Division at CSIR-CRRI, highlighted the numerous benefits of the MSS+ Technology. This includes improvements in pavement life, reductions in construction emissions, lower energy consumption, and decreased maintenance costs. The event was attended by key officials from the Public Works Department, showcasing the government’s commitment to innovative road infrastructure.

Government and CSIR-CRRI Collaboration

The technical briefing was organized following a request from Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR and Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, to consider the MSS+ Technology for road infrastructure development in Rajasthan. This initiative aligns with CSIR’s mission to support state governments in adopting green technologies developed through domestic research.

Live Demonstration of State-of-the-Art Technology

The presentation culminated in a live demonstration on a road in Jaipur using the MSS+ Smart Mix Pro Automatic Plant. This plant is India’s first mobile mixing facility designed specifically for the MSS+ system. It automates the mixing of materials, ensuring consistent quality while minimizing waste and manual labor, thereby enhancing the speed and efficiency of road projects.

Officials who witnessed the demonstration expressed their enthusiasm for the potential of this technology to improve road maintenance across Rajasthan. Mr. Praveen Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Works Department, conveyed the state government’s eagerness to integrate such innovative and sustainable technologies into its road programs.

Proven Success in Other States

In his address, Mr. Pandey noted the successful application of MSS+ Technology on over 100 kilometers of roads in Uttar Pradesh, where it proved to be a reliable solution for enhancing road durability and reducing maintenance expenses. The successful track record establishes the MSS+ Technology as a viable option for broader implementation in Rajasthan’s road development efforts.

The Rajasthan government has expressed keen interest in further exploring the technical aspects and potential applications of MSS+ Technology to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its road construction initiatives. CSIR-CRRI remains at the forefront of developing advanced technologies that enable sustainable infrastructure and contribute to the nation’s vision for innovative transportation systems.
