Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 Campaign Kicks Off Nationwide
Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, officially launched the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign today in New Delhi. Scheduled to run from 9 to 17 August 2026, this initiative aims to engage citizens in proudly raising the National Flag while celebrating patriotism and national unity through various activities across the country.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Minister Shekhawat emphasized that the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, which began in 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, has morphed into one of India’s largest public participation movements. He noted that millions of citizens have embraced the tradition of hoisting the National Flag during Independence Day celebrations. What started as a simple flag-hoisting initiative has transformed into a vibrant communal celebration enriched by cultural programs, heritage activities, and digital engagement.
The National Flag as a Symbol of Unity
Minister Shekhawat described the Tiranga as a potent symbol of India’s unity, honor, and collective identity. The Tricolour represents the courage and sacrifices made by innumerable individuals who defended the nation. He conveyed that the campaign serves as an opportunity for citizens to reaffirm their dedication to the vision of a developed India by 2047, highlighting the significance of this year’s campaign, which marks the 150th anniversary of India’s National Song, Vande Mataram.
Celebrating Vande Mataram
As part of the 2026 Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, celebrations will prominently feature Vande Mataram, creating a unique fusion of the National Flag and song. The campaign will involve mass singing of the national song. The Ministry of Culture will provide a five-step online tutorial to help citizens learn the correct rendition of Vande Mataram, which will be available on a dedicated website and the Har Ghar Tiranga portal. This year’s initiative will also incorporate a ‘Selfie with Tiranga’ feature, including the song’s lyrics and melody, and exhibitions detailing the history of Vande Mataram.
SURYAPATH TIRANGA Initiative
Shri Shekhawat also announced the SURYAPATH TIRANGA initiative, a symbolic global relay of the National Flag that will follow the sunrise across the globe, starting from the easternmost Indian Mission or Post. This initiative aims to involve Indian Missions worldwide and the global Indian community in the Independence Day celebrations.
Commemorating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
In conjunction with Independence Day, the nation will observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14 August, paying tribute to those affected by the Partition of India. Events such as silent marches, exhibitions, and documentary screenings will be organized across states and Union Territories, with a special quiz on the MyGov platform.
Major commemorations will be organized in Delhi, Kolkata, and Amritsar. In Delhi, a theatrical presentation will occur on 13 August, followed by a silent march and an exhibition on Partition. Kolkata’s observance will take place at the New Town Convention Centre, featuring exhibitions and silent marches. Amritsar will host theatrical performances highlighting the Partition experience.
The Ministry of Culture invites all citizens to join in the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign by proudly hoisting the National Flag, learning and singing Vande Mataram, participating in community activities, and collectively remembering the sacrifices that marked India’s path to Independence.
