Innovative Aquaculture Project Transforms Entrepreneurship in Telangana

Smartgreen Aquaculture Private Limited, a pioneering venture in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy District, exemplifies the success of targeted support for aspiring entrepreneurs. Founded by Scheduled Caste entrepreneur Mr. Aditya Rithvik Narra, the company specializes in advanced fish farming technologies and stands as a testament to the transformative power of the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF-SC) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Revolutionizing Fish Farming with Advanced Technology

Smartgreen has developed a state-of-the-art facility for cultivating Rainbow Trout using an advanced Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS). This facility boasts a notable water circulation capacity of 36 lakh litres, with the potential to produce 360 tonnes of fish annually. The project features dedicated hatchery and grow-out units equipped with commercial-grade machinery, process-driven operations, and specialized biosecurity measures, positioning it as one of India’s leading sustainable aquaculture establishments.

Financial Support Fuels Growth

In 2022, the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes recognized the project’s potential and provided financial support of ₹15 crore in the form of venture capital. This assistance has been instrumental in establishing this cutting-edge RAS-based facility, enabling the construction of modern grow-out units and harvesting tanks. The funds were also key to acquiring specialized aquaculture equipment, improving fish farming practices, and promoting research and development within the sector.

Creating Employment and Sustainable Practices

As a result of this intervention, Smartgreen Aquaculture has not only contributed significantly to the local economy but has also created employment opportunities for 25 individuals. The company has established assets valued at ₹40 crore and boasts a net worth of ₹8 crore. Furthermore, it has formed valuable links with international aquaculture experts, hatchery suppliers, and equipment providers, thereby enhancing its operational capabilities.

Through its commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices, Smartgreen is actively strengthening India’s fisheries ecosystem while generating livelihood opportunities for rural populations.

An Entrepreneur’s Vision

Mr. Narra reflected on the impact of the VCF-SC support, stating, “The timely financial support received under the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF-SC) enabled us to establish modern aquaculture infrastructure based on advanced and sustainable RAS technology. This support has allowed Smartgreen Aquaculture to promote scientific fish farming, create rural employment opportunities, and contribute to a more sustainable future for India’s aquaculture sector.”

A Model for Future Entrepreneurs

The achievements of Smartgreen Aquaculture Private Limited showcase the effectiveness of dedicated financial support in fostering innovation among Scheduled Caste entrepreneurs. By empowering individuals to launch ventures in emerging sectors, the VCF-SC is playing a vital role in generating sustainable employment and contributing to India’s vision of a modern agricultural economy. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment continues to champion entrepreneurship and foster inclusive economic development across the country.
