IndiaAI Partners with AYUSH to Boost AI in Traditional Medicine
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of AYUSH to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within India’s traditional medicine system. This collaboration aims to enhance AI research by integrating valuable health research data from the AYUSH sector with AIKosh, India’s official AI repository.
Key Collaboration Details
The MoU was officially signed by Shri Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer of the IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary of MeitY, alongside Dr. Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer of AYUSH. Senior officials from both ministries were also present to witness this significant event.
Under this partnership, the Ministry of AYUSH will contribute anonymized health research artefacts to AIKosh, including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits, and related use cases. These resources are set to empower researchers, startups, and academic institutions to craft AI solutions that align with national healthcare priorities while complying with data-sharing policies and regulations.
Expanding AI Capabilities in Healthcare
This collaboration is a vital step in allowing stakeholders within the AYUSH ecosystem to utilize India’s advanced AI computing infrastructure. The IndiaAI Compute ecosystem will support sophisticated AI research and the development of scalable healthcare solutions. Shri Sudeep Srivastava emphasized this partnership’s role in enriching AIKosh with datasets pertinent to traditional healthcare and merging modern technology with India’s ancient medicinal wisdom.
Dr. Kavita Jain expressed optimism about AI’s potential in the AYUSH sector, stating that the integration will facilitate evidence-based research, effective knowledge management, and innovation. She highlighted the potential for AI capabilities to revolutionize areas such as research, the study of medicinal plants, and drug administration, making the AYUSH sector more technologically advanced and prepared for the future.
Future Prospects
The MoU is set to last for an initial two-year period, with an option for automatic renewal subject to mutual agreement. Notably, this collaborative endeavor does not entail any financial obligations for either party.
