NAKSHA Urban Mapping Initiative Launches for Goa Property Owners
Property owners in Margao, Cuncolim, and Panaji can look forward to positive changes as the Department of Land Resources advances its NAKSHA urban mapping pilot into a significant new phase. This initiative, part of the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP), aims to bring accuracy and transparency to land boundaries and titles, countering recent misleading rumors that have sown confusion among residents.
NAKSHA employs state-of-the-art Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and drone technology to redefine urban mapping. One of its primary goals is to eliminate boundary-related disputes, offering landowners substantial peace of mind by ensuring that official maps accurately reflect real-world conditions. Through a method known as ground-truthing, this system checks electronic maps against actual land contours, drastically reducing the chances of future conflicts.
Community Involvement and Assurance
This pilot program introduces regular public verification cycles designed to safeguard the interests of property owners—even those who may be temporarily absent during the survey. This ensures that legal ownership is preserved regardless of one’s physical presence.
Community members can participate in this transformative initiative by submitting their title documents and mapping them accurately into the digital system. A formal inquiry process will be available from July 16 to August 14, 2026, at the Inspector of Survey and Land Records (ISLR) office located in the Osia Commercial Arcade, SGPDA Market, Margao. Survey officials will assist residents throughout the process, ensuring that it is accessible to individuals without technical knowledge.

By promoting transparency and accuracy, this initiative aims to secure Goa’s urban spaces for current and future generations. As the government takes steps to solidify property rights and enhance urban planning, residents are encouraged to embrace these changes and work collaboratively to create a more secure and efficient land management system.
