Aadhaar App Surpasses 40 Million Downloads, Enhancing Digital Identity Services

The Aadhaar App has reached a remarkable milestone with over 40 million downloads, signaling growing confidence among users in digital identity services. This significant uptake demonstrates the app’s shift into a comprehensive platform for residents to access various Aadhaar-related services easily and conveniently from their homes.

Since its inception, the Aadhaar App has simplified the process of keeping Aadhaar details current. It has successfully facilitated 1.165 million address updates, allowing residents to modify their information without needing to visit an Aadhaar centre. The app has also proven invaluable for maintaining up-to-date contact information, with nearly 4.9 million mobile number updates completed.

Additionally, a new feature for updating emails was launched on July 1, leading to approximately 1.25 million email addresses being added or updated through the app. This service, initially priced at Rs 75, is now available to users for free until December 31, 2026, further enhancing communication between residents and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The Aadhaar App has also seen significant usage of its privacy and security functions. Users have engaged with the Biometric Lock/Unlock feature over 19.1 million times, granting them greater control over their personal information. This functionality enables Aadhaar number holders to easily lock or unlock their biometrics, providing extra security at the touch of a button.

Designed to empower Aadhaar Number Holders, the Aadhaar App allows users to show, share, and verify their identity conveniently while prioritizing privacy. This aligns with the broader goals of the Digital India Mission, contributing to improved quality of life for residents across the country.
