Jammu & Kashmir Sends First Shipment of Premium Cherries to Singapore

In a landmark achievement for Jammu & Kashmir’s horticulture sector, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) successfully facilitated the first export of premium Areko Cherries and Scentrose Plums from the region to Singapore. This milestone, celebrated on July 16, 2026, comes on the heels of previous successful shipments of cherries and plums to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, signaling an expanded global presence for the region’s high-quality temperate fruits.

Flag-off Ceremony Marks New Collaboration

The export was marked by a ceremonial flag-off organized by APEDA in collaboration with local partners M/s Osum Food Solutions LLP and M/s Fruit Master Agro Fresh Private Limited, based in Pulwama. This initiative aims to leverage the superior flavor and quality of fruits from Jammu & Kashmir, which are well-regarded for their distinct taste, texture, and longevity.

Quality Assurance and Sustainable Practices

The fruits destined for Singapore underwent a meticulous process of scientific harvesting, grading, and packing. They were transported through a robust cold chain system that adheres to international food safety and phytosanitary regulations. This approach not only guarantees the freshness and quality of the fruits upon arrival but also reinforces the region’s commitment to global standards.

Boosting Farmers’ Incomes and Creating Opportunities

This export initiative is projected to enable local growers to achieve returns that are over 50% higher compared to traditional marketing channels. By fostering export-oriented production and encouraging the adoption of scientific cultivation techniques, the program aims to diminish post-harvest losses and enhance economic benefits for fruit-growing communities throughout Jammu & Kashmir. Ultimately, this initiative is positioned to create sustainable livelihoods and opportunities for the region’s agricultural workforce.

A Step Towards Enhanced Horticultural Exports

The shipment to Singapore underscores APEDA’s ongoing mission to bolster India’s horticultural exports. By diversifying markets and improving logistics, the initiative seeks to connect farmers with lucrative international markets, enhancing their incomes and further establishing Jammu & Kashmir as a dependable source of premium fresh temperate fruits.
