India to Host 2026 BRICS Labour Ministers’ Meeting in Hyderabad

India is gearing up to host the 2026 BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting (LEMM) in Hyderabad on July 15-16, 2026. This significant event is set to gather ministers and senior officials from BRICS member states, serving as a pivotal ministerial engagement during India’s chairship of BRICS in 2026.
The meeting will take place under the theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS),” and will be chaired by Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya.
Prior to the LEMM, the Third BRICS Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting will occur in Hyderabad on July 13-14, 2026. During this initial gathering, member countries will exchange valuable insights and strategies across four key areas of focus, including:
- Advancing social security and formalizing labour markets
- Enhancing women’s participation and inclusion in the workforce
- Cooperation on employability, skills mapping, and development
- Leveraging digital technologies for all workers, including gig and platform workers
Ministers will discuss these priority areas and share innovative approaches informed by their national experiences. Topics will range from social protection reforms and formalization strategies to initiatives for skills development and inclusive models for platform-based work.
Moreover, the Working Group is set to finalize a draft declaration, which will be presented to the ministers for consideration and adoption during the LEMM.
This meeting will provide a crucial platform for ongoing dialogue among BRICS members, focusing on shared labour market challenges in an evolving work environment. Discussions are expected to enhance cooperation on social protection, workforce skilling, and labour market policies aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable growth across BRICS nations.
Furthermore, the deliberations will prioritize practical and replicable policy tools, seeking to identify pathways that ensure labour markets within BRICS countries remain inclusive and adaptable amidst changing economic and technological conditions.
The Hyderabad meeting is anticipated to bolster collaboration among BRICS member states and yield practical outcomes concerning labour, employment, and worker welfare. Through dialogues and knowledge-sharing, BRICS nations aspire to advance policies that support decent work, expand social protection, and prepare their workforces for both current and future challenges in the world of work.
