EPFO Services Unavailable for 7 Days, Affecting PF Withdrawals and Claims

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has temporarily suspended several online services to facilitate a planned database consolidation and software upgrade. This initiative aims to enhance the speed, reliability, and security of its claims processing system. According to an official notice, the migration exercise is intended to improve service delivery and processing efficiency.

The outage commenced at 12 AM on June 26 and was scheduled to last until 11:59 PM on July 1, with services expected to resume at 12 AM on July 2. However, as of Thursday morning, the EPFO website still displayed a message indicating “Scheduled System Migration & Temporary Service Unavailability.” Users have expressed frustration on social media, noting that the portal remains inaccessible despite the scheduled downtime having passed. Thousands of users are affected, unable to log in to the Member Interface or Employer Interface, which has rendered all online services unavailable.

During this downtime, members and employers cannot submit new EPF claims, access e-passbooks, or file Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR). Claims submitted before the migration window will be processed once services resume.

Centre Notifies New EPF Scheme, 2026

In a separate development, the Centre has notified the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, 2026, which replaces the 1952 framework with immediate effect. The new scheme maintains the mandatory 12 percent contribution from both employers and employees while introducing a more digital and compliance-focused framework to support the implementation of the labour codes.

Key changes include simplified rules for partial withdrawals for illness, education, marriage, and housing. The new scheme mandates the submission of Aadhaar, PAN, and Aadhaar-linked bank account details for digital processing. Enhanced compliance requirements for employers will also be implemented, including electronic filings and ownership disclosures. Additionally, the scheme introduces three initiatives—Employees’ Enrolment Campaign 2026, VISHWAS 2026, and AMNESTY 2026—to help regularize past compliance gaps and resolve legacy issues.
