Rajasthan Cluster Engages in PM-SETU for Skill Development
On June 3, 2026, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) hosted an important industry interaction focusing on the PM-SETU initiative (Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability through upgraded ITIs) specifically for the Rajasthan cluster at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. This program aimed to foster collaboration among industry leaders to enhance skilling initiatives in one of North India’s rapidly expanding manufacturing hubs, Bhiwadi.
The event featured a comprehensive presentation of the PM-SETU scheme, paving the way for in-depth discussions between industry stakeholders and policymakers. Participants engaged in consultations aimed at formulating actionable strategies for the effective execution of the initiative within the Bhiwadi industrial area, renowned for its dynamic sectors including automotive, engineering, electronics, logistics, and burgeoning green industries.
Strengthening Industry Involvement in Skilling
Key figures from the skill development sector assembled for the interaction, with the shared goal of enhancing collaboration between industry and education in order to meet workforce demands and create sustainable job opportunities for the youth. Shri Bhupendra Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, chaired the session and emphasized the critical nature of merging skill development with sustainable industrial advancement.
During his address, Yadav pointed out the vast opportunities in various sectors and stated that equipping the workforce with essential skills is vital to improving employment prospects. He encouraged participants to identify pathways through which industry and skill development initiatives can work synergistically for mutual benefit.
Innovative Approaches to Training
Shri Jayant Chaudhary, who holds multiple ministerial roles including Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, co-chaired the event. He reiterated that the PM-SETU program is designed to minimize recruitment and training expenditures for businesses while enhancing employment outcomes for young people. Chaudhary highlighted that this approach would not only benefit corporate social responsibility (CSR) beneficiaries but also foster inclusive growth across the community.
Further discussing the implications of the program, Chaudhary suggested that Sector Skill Councils could engage as Anchor Industry Partners (AIPs). He also advocated for collaboration between industries and universities to bolster training frameworks, thereby creating a more knowledgeable workforce.
Transforming ITIs into Experiential Learning Centers
Chaudhary underscored the necessity for Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to transform into centers that emphasize experiential learning. He called for modernized facilities, including sports arenas, to develop ‘finishing schools’ for youth, merging quality education with effective placement services.
The focus on revitalizing training institutions is aimed not only at meeting current industry demands but also at preparing future generations for the evolving job landscape. These discussions mark a significant step toward aligning education outcomes with industry needs in Rajasthan, highlighting the government’s commitment to empowering youth through strategic skill development initiatives.
