Youth-Led Initiative Launches to Boost Border Village Development
The Department of Youth Affairs, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, has kicked off the first phase of the Viksit Vibrant Village Program (VVVP) 2026. This innovative initiative, launched through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), aims to enhance grassroots engagement, promote national integration, and facilitate sustainable development in India’s border villages.
Selected through a nationwide online quiz that attracted over 300,000 participants, 500 MY Bharat volunteers will engage in this program. They come from diverse backgrounds and represent all States and Union Territories, strategically deployed across identified border villages in Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. In the initial phase, 250 volunteers are immersed in activities across 43 villages, while the second batch of 250 volunteers will commence their engagements in 50 villages later this month.
Engaging with Local Communities
This immersive experience allows young volunteers to live in border villages and interact closely with local communities. They will connect with villagers, local administration bodies like Panchayati Raj Institutions, and security personnel, gaining a deeper understanding of the socio-economic challenges, cultural heritage, and development goals of these critical areas.
Structured over seven days, the program focuses on various thematic areas, such as border awareness, community living, governance, and village development planning. Volunteers are expected to participate in household surveys, engage in Gram Sabha meetings, conduct cleanliness drives, and identify development opportunities to support local growth.
Nation First Challenge
A significant aspect of the program includes the promotion of the Nation First Challenge, a nationwide initiative that encourages responsible citizenship and sustainable lifestyle choices. MY Bharat volunteers will advocate for five core themes: the use of Swadeshi products, encouraging healthy cooking practices, utilizing public transport for conservation of fuel, promoting natural farming, and boosting local tourism through active community engagement.
Collaboration and Preparations
This program is being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), aligning with the vision of a Viksit Bharat @2047, which emphasizes active youth participation in nation-building. Extensive preparations at national, state, and district levels have ensured a successful rollout. Coordination among various stakeholders, including MY Bharat, ITBP, state governments, and local administrations, is in place to support the program.
The Viksit Vibrant Village Program 2026 reflects the commitment of the Government of India to empower young citizens as proactive contributors to the nation, while also reinforcing the socio-cultural and developmental ties between youth and the vibrant border communities of India.
