Gadkari Reviews Major Highway Projects in Northeast India

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has conducted a comprehensive review of highway development across three northeastern states of India: Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland. This review focused on the progress and quality of 1,489 km of national highway projects in Mizoram, 1,759 km in Manipur, and 1,578 km in Nagaland. The meeting took place in New Delhi and included discussions with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and various project contractors.

During the review, Shri Gadkari highlighted the significance of timely project execution and strict compliance with quality standards. He urged for the integration of advanced technologies to foster a robust and sustainable highway infrastructure. “Enhanced road connectivity is crucial for boosting economic development and ensuring convenience for commuters,” he remarked.

In addition to quality concerns, the Minister stressed the importance of preparing for the monsoon season. He directed officials to implement effective preventive measures and established robust response systems to maintain road safety and structural integrity during adverse weather conditions.

Shri Gadkari called for an acceleration of on-ground project execution and the strengthening of quality monitoring systems. He emphasized the need to employ modern construction methods to extend the lifespan of road assets, improve the riding experience, and guarantee uninterrupted connectivity along key corridors.

To enhance readiness for the upcoming monsoon, the Minister insisted on specific actions such as improving drainage management, administering slope protection measures, and setting up quick-response protocols. These steps are aimed at minimizing road disruptions and ensuring the safety of all commuters.

Shri Gadkari’s proactive approach reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and is expected to significantly impact economic growth in the region. As these projects progress, the focus remains on achieving quality outcomes and ensuring that the benefits of improved connectivity are fully realized by local communities.
