India Enhances Multilingual Digital Access Through New MoU

The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) has joined forces with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to enhance multilingual digital capabilities across India’s industry and trade sectors. This collaboration is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to promote the BHASHINI platform, which serves as India’s National Language Digital Public Infrastructure.
The initiative is designed to provide multilingual access and governance across all 22 languages recognized in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. By integrating these languages into DPIIT’s digital platforms, it hopes to foster inclusivity among entrepreneurs, startups, investors, and citizens, allowing them to access important information and services in their preferred languages.
Boosting Multilingual Services
DPIIT and the BHASHINI team will roll out various projects under this collaboration. Initiatives such as BHASHINI Udyat, Mitra, Appmitra, and Pravakta will focus on enhancing multilingual access across DPIIT platforms. The rollout will include features like translation API integration, development of domain-specific language models, and voice-enabled technologies.
This initiative is poised to reduce language barriers in accessing government information, industry services, and essential policy updates, thereby fostering a more inclusive environment for investment and entrepreneurship. It reflects a commitment to ensuring that language differences do not hinder participation in economic growth.
Emphasizing AI and Language Technology
The discussions surrounding this MoU underscored the significance of multilingual technologies in broadening access to growth opportunities in India’s startup and manufacturing sectors. The partnership will work to develop robust multilingual AI models and language technologies that enhance investment promotions and support innovation in various sectors.
Furthermore, the collaboration encourages the contribution of language data and aims to increase multilingual AI tool adoption among stakeholders associated with DPIIT. Both parties are open to exploring initiatives that can bolster digital infrastructure while promoting innovation and service accessibility across the investment ecosystem.
Strengthening India’s Digital Landscape
This partnership reinforces the role of the BHASHINI platform as a crucial element of India’s language infrastructure aimed at fostering inclusivity and accessibility in digital governance. It aligns closely with the country’s vision for enhancing entrepreneurship and promoting economic development through broad participation.
