WAVES Doc Bazaar 2026 Set to Inspire Filmmakers in Mumbai

Mumbai is gearing up for the return of the WAVES Doc Bazaar, scheduled from June 16 to 18, 2026, at the NFDC Complex, coinciding with the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). This year marks the second edition of this esteemed platform, dedicated to fostering the growth of documentary, animation, and short filmmakers through collaboration, mentorship, and market opportunities.

WAVES Doc Bazaar aims to unite seasoned professionals and emerging creative talents from the global audiovisual industry. By creating a vibrant environment for creators, producers, distributors, broadcasters, funders, and technology innovators, the Bazaar will support various stages of production and distribution. The initiative emphasizes empowering compelling storytelling, helping filmmakers connect with international audiences, and providing insights into current industry trends, market demands, and distribution strategies.

Exclusive Viewing Room for Emerging Talent

Central to this year’s events is the **Viewing Room (VR)**, showcasing recently completed or nearly finished documentary, animation, and short films. This exclusive platform allows select buyers, programmers, distributors, and investors to view the films under secure conditions. It’s an excellent opportunity for filmmakers to secure distribution deals, find co-producers, and attract financing for their projects. Participants will be able to filter films based on language, duration, and completion stages, with featured titles made accessible in a catalogue for registered delegates prior to the event.

Work-In-Progress Lab: Guidance for Filmmakers

The **Work-In-Progress Lab (WIP)** will also feature prominently, offering filmmakers at the rough-cut stage valuable feedback and mentorship from experienced peers and international experts. This closed-door environment is designed specifically to help creators refine their projects for broader audiences, enhancing their chances of success.

Introducing Immersive Market for Cutting-Edge Content

For the first time, WAVES Doc Bazaar will introduce the **Immersive Market**, dedicated to creators of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Extended Reality (XR) content. This new segment will showcase innovative storytelling projects and aim to foster collaborations between content creators and technology partners in the immersive space.

Call for Entries: Apply Now!

Entries are now open for both the Viewing Room and Work-In-Progress Lab, inviting filmmakers from around the world to submit their projects until May 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM IST. The initiative is welcoming documentary and animation films in various formats, including short, mid-length, and feature-length submissions. Films must be completed or in post-production, and projects still in development are not eligible. Filmmakers with limited international exposure or those seeking festival, sales, or finishing funds are encouraged to apply.

The submission process begins with a password-protected screener link for full films or rough cuts. Selected applicants will need to provide a minimum of 10 minutes of footage for the Viewing Room, with complete submissions strongly encouraged. Final files will be securely managed to ensure they are only accessible to authorized participants.

This is a unique opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work on an international stage and connect with industry leaders in the documentary and animation sectors. Interested candidates can find more information and submit applications through the official portal.
