India and Japan Strengthen Healthcare Collaboration at Joint Meeting
The 3rd Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) focused on healthcare between India and Japan took place today at Bharat Mandapam. Co-chaired by India’s Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, and Japan’s Healthcare Policy Minister, Ms. Kimi Onoda, the meeting aimed to deepen cooperation in the health sector.
During her welcoming speech, Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava highlighted the robust partnership shared by India and Japan, emphasizing mutual respect and trust. She stated that the JCM serves as a vital platform for regular dialogue, fostering a deeper mutual understanding and pushing forward their shared vision for future collaboration in healthcare.

Minister Nadda reiterated the commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation in the healthcare field through a Memorandum of Cooperation focused on wellness. Ms. Onoda echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Japan’s dedication to promoting healthcare collaboration through innovative technologies and research initiatives. Both leaders expressed optimism about the future of their partnership during the discussions.

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): India presented a evolving strategy to combat NCDs, focusing on increased screening and a continuum of care aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Japan showcased its cooperative projects aimed at improving cancer screening and treatment systems.
Medical Supply Chains: India emphasized the need for strengthening domestic manufacturing in the pharmaceutical sector to enhance access to affordable medical products and services. Japan detailed its public-private collaboration model designed to bolster supply chain resilience.
