India Launches Nationwide Fire Safety Week for Healthcare

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with states and union territories across the nation, is set to kick off a significant initiative—Fire Safety Week—aimed at enhancing awareness about fire hazards in healthcare facilities. Running from May 4 to May 10, 2026, this observance seeks to educate healthcare personnel and strengthen fire safety measures throughout the country’s medical institutions.

The official inauguration of Fire Safety Week will take place at Kartavya Bhawan-1, New Delhi, led by Union Health Secretary, Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava. As the event unfolds, it will mark the launch of various awareness campaigns and preparedness activities that will occur nationwide during the week.

Pledge for Safety

During the inaugural ceremony, a pivotal moment will be the administration of a pledge on ‘Fire Safety in Health Facilities,’ underscoring the commitment of all stakeholders to adhere strictly to fire safety regulations. This initiative aims to enhance preparedness and foster a robust safety culture within healthcare settings.

Nationwide Activities

Throughout Fire Safety Week, states and union territories will engage in numerous activities designed to boost awareness regarding fire safety. These will include public campaigns, simulation drills, and training sessions focused on fire prevention, emergency response, and evacuation procedures. The goal is to ensure that healthcare personnel are well-informed and prepared to handle fire emergencies effectively.

Commitment to Safety

This observance reflects the Ministry’s ongoing dedication to protecting patients and healthcare workers by enforcing robust fire safety protocols. By promoting a culture of safety and preparedness, the Ministry aims to enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure within the healthcare delivery system across India.

As this initiative unfolds, it is expected to create a safer environment in healthcare facilities, ultimately benefiting both staff and patients. The collaborative effort signifies a step forward in prioritizing safety and reducing the risks associated with fire hazards in the medical field.
