Dalal Street wrapped up a holiday-shortened trading week on a positive note, with the combined market valuation of India’s top ten firms increasing by ₹2.20 lakh crore. Reliance Industries spearheaded this rally, showcasing resilient investor sentiment despite a backdrop of market volatility. The BSE Sensex gained 249.29 points, or 0.32%, over the week, reflecting a mixed trading environment influenced by both global and domestic factors.
Market Performance Overview
The stock market experienced a week characterized by narrow trading ranges and mixed signals. According to Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking Ltd, the markets began the week with optimism, buoyed by easing geopolitical tensions and steady progress in fourth-quarter earnings. However, this initial momentum waned as the week progressed. Rising crude oil prices, subdued trends in Asian markets, and ongoing outflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) contributed to limiting further gains. Despite these challenges, the overall sentiment remained resilient, allowing the markets to close with marginal gains.
