Apple Introduces AI Photo Editing Tools in Photos App with iOS 27, According to Reports

Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, with exciting new features that may revolutionize photo editing on its devices. According to a report from Bloomberg, the upcoming update is expected to introduce three innovative AI-powered tools within the Photos app, enhancing user experience and creativity. These features aim to streamline photo editing, making it more intuitive and efficient for users.

New AI Features in iOS 27

The anticipated iOS 27 may include a dedicated section in the Photos app that leverages Apple Intelligence to offer four distinct editing features: Extend, Enhance, Reframe, and Clean Up. While the Clean Up feature is already available, it is expected to receive significant improvements in performance and functionality with the new update. This enhancement aims to address current limitations, as it has been noted that the existing Clean Up tool does not perform as well as some competitors.

How the Features Will Work

If these features are implemented in iOS 27, users can look forward to a range of capabilities. The Extend feature will allow users to generate additional content beyond the original frame of a photo, giving them control over how much extra data they wish to create. The Enhance feature promises to quickly improve the color, lighting, and overall quality of images using AI technology. Meanwhile, the Reframe feature is designed specifically for Spatial photos, which are 3D images intended for the Vision Pro headset. This feature will enable users to alter the perspective of an image after it has been captured.

Challenges and Future Developments

Despite the excitement surrounding these new features, Bloomberg reports that both the Extend and Reframe functionalities are currently facing challenges during internal testing. As a result, there is a possibility that their release may be postponed until a future iOS update. Additionally, Apple is expected to enhance Siri with improved AI capabilities in iOS 27, addressing a notable absence in the previous version, iOS 26.
