Empowering Women: A Celebration of Resilience at SwigStree Event

In an inspiring event titled ‘SwigStree: Celebrating Women on the Move’, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, recognized the remarkable resilience of women delivery partners on Thursday. Organized by Swiggy in New Delhi, this initiative aimed to honor women from the Swiggy Food Marketplace and Instamart who have triumphed over adversity to create livelihoods and provide for their families.

During his address, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the workforce, describing it as both a social necessity and an economic imperative. He stated, “Empowering women is central to building a Viksit Bharat,” highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing gender equality in the labor market.

Significant Progress in Women’s Employment

Dr. Mandaviya shared promising statistics reflecting the progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He noted that the Female Labour Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) has significantly increased from 23.3% in 2017-18 to 40% in 2025, and the Female Worker Population Ratio (FWPR) has risen from 22% to nearly 39% during the same period. Additionally, the Female Unemployment Rate (FUR) has decreased from 5.6% to 3.1%, indicating better job prospects for women who seek employment.

Labor Reforms Supporting Women

Dr. Mandaviya pointed out the nearly three-fold expansion of social security coverage in India over the past decade, rising from 19% in 2015 to over 64.3% by 2025. This expansion is part of ongoing policy reforms aimed at labor law improvements, digital inclusion, and welfare delivery. He specifically highlighted the transformative impact of the four Labor Codes implemented last November, which formally recognize gig and platform workers, granting them a legal identity and access to social security for the first time.

The Labor Codes enshrine the principle of equal pay for equal work, a critical measure aimed at reducing wage discrimination based on gender. They also introduce work-from-home provisions, maternity leave, and the establishment of crèche facilities, addressing long-standing barriers that women have faced in maintaining their workforce participation.

Celebrating Women Delivery Partners

In his speech, Dr. Mandaviya acknowledged the unique potential of gig and platform work to empower women economically. He praised women delivery partners for their dedication, stating that they are not just supporting their families but also driving societal progress and inspiring future generations. He remarked, “Women delivery partners are strengthening the nation’s economic and social fabric.”

The event concluded with the felicitation of women delivery partners from Swiggy’s networks, celebrating their extraordinary courage and perseverance. Sriharsha Majety, Co-founder and Group CEO of Swiggy, along with other dignitaries, attended the event and shared in the recognition of these inspiring women.
