Silver Prices Decline as Bullion Weakens: Silver Drops Rs 2,000 and Gold Falls Rs 600 Ahead of Donald Trump’s Iran Deadline

Silver and gold prices experienced a notable decline in the national capital on Tuesday, as investors adopted a cautious stance ahead of a critical deadline set by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz. Silver prices fell by Rs 2,000 to Rs 2.40 lakh per kilogram, while gold dropped by Rs 600 to Rs 1.53 lakh per 10 grams. The fluctuations in precious metal prices are attributed to rising geopolitical tensions and market uncertainties.

Market Reactions to Geopolitical Tensions

The All India Sarafa Association reported that silver prices decreased by nearly 1 percent, settling at Rs 2,40,000 per kg, down from Rs 2,42,000 per kg the previous day. Similarly, gold of 99.9 percent purity saw a decline of 0.4 percent, closing at Rs 1,53,200 per 10 grams, compared to Rs 1,53,800 per 10 grams in the prior session. Analysts suggest that the pressure on bullion prices is closely linked to President Trump’s recent ultimatum to Iran. Trump warned of potential military strikes if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for oil. This warning has heightened fears of escalating military conflict in the region, leading to increased volatility in the markets.

International Market Trends

In the global market, spot gold traded slightly higher at $4,659.16 an ounce, while spot silver experienced a nearly 1 percent decline, settling at $72.14 an ounce. US gold futures also saw a minor decrease of 0.1 percent, priced at $4,680.50. Commodity strategist Nitesh Shah from WisdomTree noted that the market is gradually regaining liquidity following the Easter period, with renewed interest in dip buying. However, he pointed out that the strength of the US dollar and pressure from the bond market are acting as obstacles to gold price increases. The firm dollar makes gold more expensive for international buyers, while elevated US 10-year Treasury yields add to the challenges facing gold investors.

Oil Prices Surge Amidst Rising Tensions

The geopolitical situation has also impacted oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate rising by 3.08 percent to $115.87 per barrel and Brent crude gaining 1 percent to $110.80 per barrel. The Revolutionary Guard of Iran has issued warnings that “restraint is over,” indicating potential disruptions to regional oil and gas supplies. This comes in the wake of Israeli strikes on Iranian sites, coinciding with Trump’s deadline. Analyst Zain Vawda from MarketPulse by OANDA remarked that the ongoing confusion regarding US-Iran mediation is keeping market participants cautious, resulting in tight trading ranges over the past two weeks.

Future Outlook for Precious Metals

Looking ahead, analysts anticipate continued volatility in bullion prices as investors closely monitor developments in West Asia, fluctuations in crude oil prices, and upcoming macroeconomic data from the United States. The interplay of these factors is expected to shape market sentiment and influence trading strategies in the near term. As tensions persist and geopolitical dynamics evolve, market participants remain vigilant for signs that could signal shifts in precious metal valuations.
