IPL 2026: Xavier Bartlett Strikes Twice in One Over, Dismissing Cameron Green and Finn Allen in KKR vs PBKS Clash

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are optimistic about the return of their star all-rounder Cameron Green, who has resumed bowling in practice sessions. Bowling coach Tim Southee confirmed that Green, the IPL’s most expensive overseas player at ₹25.20 crore, is making progress in his rehabilitation following back surgery. Although he has not yet bowled in a match this season, Southee indicated that Green is close to being match-ready. However, it is unlikely he will take the field against Punjab Kings on Monday. KKR’s bowling lineup has faced challenges early in the season, particularly after two consecutive losses.

Cameron Green’s Progress and Expectations

Cameron Green’s return to bowling is a significant development for KKR, as the team has struggled with its bowling attack in the absence of several key players. Tim Southee noted that Green has been performing well in practice and is on track to return to competitive play soon. Despite his impressive practice session on Saturday, it appears he will not be ready for the upcoming match against Punjab Kings. The team is closely monitoring his recovery, and Southee emphasized that they are in regular communication with Cricket Australia regarding Green’s workload management.

The absence of Green has been felt acutely, especially after KKR’s inability to defend a high score of 220 in their opening match against Mumbai Indians. The team’s captain, Ajinkya Rahane, humorously deflected questions about Green’s bowling status, prompting Cricket Australia to clarify that KKR is fully aware of his recovery timeline. Southee remains hopeful that Green will contribute to the bowling lineup soon, which could significantly enhance KKR’s performance.

KKR’s Bowling Challenges

KKR’s bowling attack has been a focal point of concern early in the IPL season. The team has faced setbacks with key bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman, Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, and Matheesha Pathirana unavailable for various reasons. This has led to a reliance on less experienced bowlers, which has raised questions about the team’s depth in this area. In their last match, KKR suffered a heavy 65-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad, further highlighting the need for a more effective bowling strategy.

Blessing Muzarabani, who replaced Mustafizur, showed promise with impressive figures of 4/41, while young bowlers Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi have also made notable contributions. However, the seasoned spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy has yet to deliver impactful performances. Southee acknowledged the challenges posed by the inexperience of the bowling group but expressed confidence in their potential. He emphasized the importance of early wickets, particularly during the powerplay, to control the flow of runs.

Team Selection and Future Strategies

As KKR navigates the early stages of the tournament, team selection has come under scrutiny. Players like Tim Seifert, Rachin Ravindra, and Rovman Powell have yet to see action, raising questions about the team’s strategy. Southee explained that finding the right combination is a complex task, as there are many talented players to choose from. He highlighted the need for careful consideration of the opposition and conditions when selecting the team.

Despite the challenges faced in the first two matches, Southee remains optimistic about the squad’s capabilities. He believes that the players have shown glimpses of their skill and that consistency will come with time. The coaching staff is focused on developing a strategy that maximizes the team’s strengths while addressing the weaknesses exposed in the initial games. As KKR prepares for their next match, the emphasis will be on refining their approach and ensuring that they can compete effectively in the tournament.
