Election Commission Unveils Schedule for Upcoming State Elections
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially announced the schedule for the General Elections for the Legislative Assemblies in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, as well as bye-elections in eight assembly constituencies spread across Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura. Voting is set to take place on April 9, 2026, with a staggering total of 1,955 candidates vying for positions in the elections.
Nomination Process Underway
As part of the election preparation, the nomination process for the legislative assemblies of West Bengal (Phase-I and II) and Tamil Nadu has commenced. Candidates have until April 9 to withdraw their nominations for the first phase of voting in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, while those participating in the second phase of West Bengal have until April 13 to do so. This crucial period allows candidates to finalize their participation as the elections draw near.
Empowering Voters with Information
To enhance transparency and inform voters, the ECI encourages citizens to utilize the “Know Your Candidates (KYC)” module available on ECINet. This tool provides comprehensive information regarding candidates, including any criminal records, financial assets, liabilities, educational qualifications, and verified social media profiles. Voters can find the KYC module easily by navigating to the “Conduct of Elections” tab on the ECINet platform.
