BCB Contacts BCCI to Revive India’s Bangladesh Tour for September Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to enhance their cricketing relationship and explore new collaborative opportunities. Nazmul Abedin Fahim, the BCB’s Director of Cricket Operations, confirmed this development, stating that maintaining communication with other cricket boards is a routine practice. In a letter to the BCCI, the BCB highlighted the upcoming visit of the Indian national team to Bangladesh in September and expressed interest in potential reciprocal cricket collaborations, including a planned tour of the Bangladesh women’s team to India.

Strengthening Ties Between BCB and BCCI

The recent outreach from the BCB comes after a period of tension between Bangladesh and India in the cricketing arena. The friction began when the Kolkata Knight Riders signed Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman for the IPL 2026 season. However, due to political objections from local groups, the BCCI instructed KKR to release him, which created a rift between the two boards. The situation worsened when Bangladesh decided to boycott the T20 World Cup hosted in India, further straining their cricketing relations.

Despite these challenges, recent diplomatic developments suggest a thawing of relations. The new government in Bangladesh, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has taken steps to improve bilateral ties with India. This diplomatic shift is expected to positively influence cricketing cooperation, as evidenced by the scheduled visit of Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to India in early April. This visit marks a significant step toward rebuilding trust and collaboration between the two nations.

Upcoming Series: India’s Tour of Bangladesh

The Indian national cricket team is set to tour Bangladesh in September 2026 for a six-match white-ball series, which will include three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Initially planned for August 2025, the tour was postponed due to scheduling conflicts and security concerns. The BCB’s recent proposal to the BCCI has paved the way for finalizing the schedule, which is anticipated to be confirmed soon.

The series will kick off with the first ODI on September 1 in Mirpur, followed by the second ODI on September 3, also in Mirpur. The third ODI will take place in Chattogram on September 6. The T20I matches are scheduled to begin on September 9 in Chattogram, with the second T20I on September 12 and the final match on September 13, both in Mirpur. This series is expected to be a significant event for both teams, providing an opportunity to strengthen their cricketing ties.

Future Collaborations and Opportunities

In the letter sent to the BCCI, the BCB emphasized the importance of exploring further opportunities for collaboration beyond the upcoming series. This proactive approach indicates a desire to foster a more robust cricketing relationship between the two nations. The BCB’s outreach reflects a commitment to not only maintain but also enhance the cricketing ties that have historically existed between Bangladesh and India.

As both boards navigate the complexities of international cricket, the potential for future engagements remains promising. The BCB’s initiative to communicate and propose collaborative efforts could lead to more frequent matches, exchanges, and joint initiatives that benefit both cricketing communities. With the backdrop of improving diplomatic relations, the cricketing landscape between Bangladesh and India appears to be entering a new phase of cooperation and mutual respect.
