India’s Rural Governance Goes Digital with New Platforms
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has made remarkable progress in enhancing digital and inclusive governance for rural communities across India. With over ₹3 lakh crores in payments processed through the eGramSwaraj platform and the introduction of the AI-driven SabhaSaar tool in 23 Indian languages, the Ministry is fostering greater financial transparency and grassroots participation.
In a significant move towards technology-driven governance, the eGramSwaraj platform has enabled real-time payments to vendors and service providers. This innovation ensures complete digital traceability of transactions. Under the e-Panchayat Mission Mode Project and in alignment with the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), eGramSwaraj is revolutionizing planning, accounting, and expenditure at the Panchayat level, effectively replacing outdated cash-based and paper processes with a swift, accountable, and resistant system against fraud. During the financial year 2025-26, Panchayati Raj Institutions transferred a substantial ₹53,342 crores through the eGramSwaraj-PFMS interface. Notably, 2,55,254 Gram Panchayats have shared their development plans on the platform, with a total of 2,59,798 PRIs onboarding the system and 2,50,807 making online payments.
The success of the eGramSwaraj platform is evident with the registration of 1,60,79,737 vendors, reflecting widespread adoption and trust in the system.
AI-Powered SabhaSaar Expands Linguistic Reach
Alongside this digital advancement, the SabhaSaar tool, which uses artificial intelligence for voice-to-text summarization of meetings, has expanded its offerings significantly. Launched on August 14, 2025, SabhaSaar now supports 23 Indian languages, up from 13. These additional languages include Assamese, Bodo, Dogri, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Manipuri, Nepali, Santhali, and Sindhi. This expansion enables the documentation of Gram Sabha proceedings in local dialects, making the process more inclusive and participatory.
SabhaSaar streamlines the recording of minutes, attendance, resolutions, and action points during Gram Sabha meetings. As of January 29, 2026, 1,11,486 Gram Panchayats have utilized the platform for summarizing meetings, marking a significant step towards enhancing accessibility in governance.
The platform has garnered national recognition, receiving top honors in the Artificial Intelligence category at the Technology Sabha Excellence Awards 2026 by The Indian Express Group, as well as a Silver Award in the AI for Social Impact category at the Economic Times GovTech Awards 2026.
These advancements illustrate the Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s ongoing commitment to creating digitally empowered, transparent, and inclusive Panchayats, thereby strengthening financial governance and democratic engagement at the grassroots level.
