Empowering Entrepreneurs: MSME Launches Awareness Camp in Nagaland
The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), in collaboration with the Government of Nagaland and the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), held an Entrepreneur Awareness Camp and Special Vendor Development Programme on March 30, 2026, at Seden Riju, Purana Bazar, Dimapur. The event aimed to enlighten local entrepreneurs about various government initiatives, including the National SC-ST Hub (NSSH) Scheme, which seeks to enhance the capabilities of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe enterprises.
With over 300 aspiring and existing entrepreneurs attending, the programme offered a platform for participants to explore opportunities such as Udyam Registration. The gathering was graced by dignitaries including Shri S. C. L. Das, Secretary of the Ministry of MSME, and Ms. Mercy Epao, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of MSME, along with prominent figures from both Central and State governments.
Focus on Inclusive Growth
Shri Rajesh Madan, Zonal General Manager of NSIC, kicked off the event with insights on the Government’s Public Procurement Policy. He emphasized the importance of including SC/ST-owned Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in public procurement, highlighting the commitment to ensure 4% procurement from these groups and 3% from women-owned MSEs. Madan reaffirmed that the NSSH is dedicated to creating an inclusive business ecosystem throughout India, including Nagaland.
In her address, Ms. Mercy Epao discussed the array of support available through MSME schemes, focusing on financial assistance, infrastructure development, skill enhancement, and market connectivity. She noted that the MSME sector stands as India’s second-largest employer after agriculture, contributing over 31% to the nation’s GDP and accounting for 46% of exports. Furthermore, she remarked on the significant number of MSMEs registered on the Udyam Portal, which provide employment opportunities for over 34 crore individuals.
Encouraging Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Secretary S.C.L. Das lauded the contribution of the MSME schemes in bolstering the entrepreneurial landscape, particularly applauding youth and women entrepreneurs for their vital role in the state’s economic development. He underscored the potential of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence as tools for creating new business ventures and job openings. Das reassured attendees of the Government’s commitment to foster SC/ST entrepreneurship, promising robust collaboration with state authorities and stakeholders to enhance outreach and implementation.
The event also served as a valuable networking opportunity, allowing entrepreneurs to engage directly with key stakeholders, including CPSEs, MSME-DFO, and financial institutions. During the technical sessions, representatives outlined options for financial support, vendor empanelment processes, and additional resources, encouraging meaningful dialogue aimed at promoting the MSME sector.
Overall, this initiative stands as a significant step toward facilitating growth and development for entrepreneurs in Nagaland, aligning with the broader objectives of national economic empowerment.
