Government of India Opens Nominations for Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2026
The Government of India has officially opened the nomination process for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) 2026, an esteemed initiative aimed at honoring remarkable achievements in the fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation. This initiative is overseen by the RVP Secretariat within the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, led by the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar seeks to recognize scientists, technologists, and innovators whose contributions have significantly enriched India’s scientific domains and bolstered national development. Nominations, which can include self-nominations, are welcomed from various fields such as Agricultural Science, Atomic Energy, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Defence Technology, Earth Science, Engineering Sciences, Environmental Science, Mathematics and Computer Science, Medicine, Physics, Space Science and Technology, and more.
A Range of Categories Available
The RVP-2026 awards will be presented in four unique categories:
- Vigyan Ratna (VR): Honoring lifetime achievements in science and technology.
- Vigyan Shri (VS): Recognizing exceptional contributions to the field.
- Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB): Supporting young scientists aged 45 and under who demonstrate extraordinary potential.
- Vigyan Team (VT): Awarded to collaborative teams of three or more researchers excelling in their efforts.
Nominations will be accepted online via the Ministry of Home Affairs Awards Portal from March 28, 2026, to May 11, 2026.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, emphasized the government’s steadfast dedication to nurturing excellence in the realms of science and innovation. “The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar showcases our commitment to the spirit of research and innovation that our scientists embody, which is essential in transforming India into a leading knowledge hub globally,” he stated. He urged institutions, peers, and individuals to actively nominate candidates who inspire and contribute to societal advancement.

The Ministry has called on academic institutions, research organizations, industry representatives, and individuals to engage in the nomination process, ensuring that India’s scientific talent is prominently recognized.
“The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar goes beyond merely being an award; it stands as a symbol of our nation’s dedication to cultivating a culture of excellence and innovation,” Dr. Singh added. He pointed out that, while striving for a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ it is crucial to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of researchers and technologists overcoming global challenges with local solutions.
The Minister reiterated that these awards exemplify the government’s commitment to acknowledging “Value in Science.” The selection process aims to be more inclusive, transparent, and rigorous, enabling deserving talent across the country to be highlighted.
