Revamping New Delhi Railway Station: Enhanced Security and Amenities
In a significant move to enhance passenger experiences, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, convened a crucial review meeting with senior railway officials at Rail Bhawan today. The focus of the meeting was on improving access to railway stations, upgrading passenger amenities, and reinforcing security measures. New Delhi Railway Station will serve as the pilot site for introducing these reforms, which will later be implemented across other stations based on insights gained during the rollout.
AI Surveillance Network for Enhanced Security
One of the standout initiatives discussed is the implementation of a comprehensive AI-powered surveillance network at New Delhi Railway Station. This system will utilize cameras strategically placed throughout the station, monitoring platforms, concourses, entry and exit points, and areas vulnerable to unauthorized access. An Exception Event Display-based control room will be set up to analyze live camera feeds, allowing staff to respond promptly to any unusual activities. The Union Minister emphasized the importance of proper lighting in all surveillance zones to maximize safety.
Standardized Uniforms and ID Systems for Staff
To streamline operations and enhance accountability, a new colour-coded identification system for all station personnel will be introduced. Railway staff will don fluorescent jackets, while vendors and other non-employees will have distinct, color-coded uniforms. This initiative aims to facilitate quick recognition of individuals within the station, improving interaction with security and ticket-checking staff. Comprehensive ID cards will be issued to all personnel, and this identification protocol is expected to expand to all North Zone stations, using New Delhi as a model.
QR Code Entry Management for Upcoming Festival Rush
In preparation for the busy travel seasons of Diwali and Chhath, a QR code-based entry management system will be piloted at New Delhi Railway Station. This system will ensure that only valid ticket holders can enter the premises, helping in the effective segregation of different categories of passengers, including Reserved, Monthly Season Ticket, and Unreserved holders.
Improving Last-Mile Connectivity with RailOne App Integration
To enhance the travel experience for passengers, a collaboration between the RailOne App and Bharat Taxi is underway. This integration aims to streamline the last-mile connectivity for travelers, alleviating congestion outside the station and providing a reliable transport option. Bharat Taxi, recognized as India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform, embodies the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive mobility solutions.
Upgraded Holding Areas for Better Crowd Management
The review also covered the progress in enhancing holding areas across 76 railway stations. These designated zones for Unreserved travelers will help control access to platforms, mitigating overcrowding and improving safety. Clear signage will guide passengers, and real-time train information will be available to keep them informed as they await entry.
