NDIC 2026: Pioneering Defence Innovation in India
The National Defence Industries Conclave (NDIC) 2026, themed ‘Advanced Manufacturing Technologies’, is set to take place on March 19-20, 2026, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. This two-day event will be inaugurated by the Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, and aims to bolster the integration of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) into India’s defence manufacturing landscape. The conclave will promote the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, including automation, artificial intelligence, robotics, and additive manufacturing, aligning with the government’s vision of achieving Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence.
Focus on MSMEs and Advanced Technology
The NDIC 2026 aims to foster collaboration among MSMEs, startups, public and private defence companies, policymakers, and academia. This gathering will serve as a platform for policy dialogue, encouraging innovation, and enhancing participation in the defence supply chain. It is also designed to inspire industries outside the defence sector to explore manufacturing opportunities, while promoting collaborative research and development efforts.
Highlights of the Event
During the conclave, Shri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate an exhibition that showcases advanced manufacturing technologies and innovative defence solutions. Furthermore, a new set of challenges designed for startups and MSMEs will be introduced, provided by the Defence Forces and Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). Additionally, key publications relating to defence manufacturing and policy reforms will be launched, offering valuable insights into the sector.
Exhibition and Partnerships
The exhibition will feature stalls from both private and public sector defence giants, presenting their initiatives aimed at engaging MSMEs as partners in defence manufacturing. A total of 24 Indian and foreign firms will display their advanced manufacturing technologies. This exhibition presents a significant opportunity to foster partnerships among large defence manufacturers, DPSUs, technology suppliers, and MSMEs, all contributing to India’s objective of creating a self-reliant and globally competitive defence ecosystem.
Engaging Sessions for Innovation
The NDIC will offer a variety of thematic sessions focused on crucial sectors within defence manufacturing. These sessions will provide a space for exchange among policymakers, industry leaders, startups, and technology experts to discuss emerging opportunities. Discussions will focus on areas such as indigenisation, innovation, and technological development in key sectors like aerospace, naval systems, defence electronics, and advanced materials.
A Continuation of Momentum
This conclave builds on the momentum generated by earlier state-level MSME conclaves and various interactions held throughout the year by the Department of Defence Production (DDP). The NDIC 2026 is anticipated to play a pivotal role in fostering innovation, enhancing industry participation, and accelerating India’s progress toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
