Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Sets Sights on Chris Gayle’s Legendary IPL Record

Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is setting his sights on breaking one of the most celebrated records in T20 cricket history—the remarkable 175-run innings by Chris Gayle. As he gears up for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi aims to build on his impressive performances from last year, where he became the youngest centurion in IPL history. His standout moment came earlier this year when he scored 175 runs in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup final, leading India to victory.

Sooryavanshi’s Aspirations for IPL 2026

With the IPL 2026 season approaching, Sooryavanshi has made it clear that his primary goal is to help the Rajasthan Royals secure their second IPL title. During the BCCI Naman Awards in New Delhi, he expressed his desire to break Gayle’s long-standing record. “To break the 175-run record,” he stated when asked about his aspirations. This ambition reflects his confidence and determination to make a significant impact in the tournament.

The 175-run innings by Gayle, achieved while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in 2013, remains the highest individual score in IPL and T20 cricket history. Sooryavanshi recognizes the challenge ahead but remains focused on contributing to his team’s success. “The goal this IPL season is to win the trophy for the team. It is a very important thing,” he emphasized, highlighting his commitment to the franchise.

Support from Rajasthan Royals

Sooryavanshi’s journey in cricket began at a young age when he was picked by the Rajasthan Royals at just 13 years old in 2024. He credits the franchise for believing in his talent early on. “When I made my domestic debut, RR had been keeping an eye on me during my domestic and Under-19 games,” he explained. The scouting team’s support played a crucial role in his development as a player.

He also acknowledged the influence of cricketing legends like Rahul Dravid and the guidance he received from senior teammates during his initial days in the IPL. “Rahul sir was there at that time, so I got to learn a lot from him. There were a lot of senior players in the team and it was a great learning experience,” Sooryavanshi added. This mentorship has undoubtedly shaped his approach to the game and prepared him for the challenges of the IPL.

Looking Ahead

As the IPL season draws near, all eyes will be on Sooryavanshi to see if he can achieve his ambitious goal of surpassing Gayle’s record. His remarkable rise in the cricketing world has already made him one of the most exciting young talents to watch. With a strong focus on team success and personal milestones, Sooryavanshi is poised to make a significant impact in IPL 2026. Fans and cricket enthusiasts alike will be eager to see how this young star performs in the upcoming season.
