India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation Monitors West Asia Air Travel

The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the West Asia region and its potential impact on air travel. Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu is actively overseeing developments and engaging with stakeholders to ensure efficient responses. The safety of passengers and the continuity of services remain top priorities for the Ministry and airlines operating in the region.

As of March 9, 2026, operational data reveals that Indian airlines facilitated the arrival of 45 inbound flights from West Asia, bringing 7,407 passengers back to India. In light of the circumstances, these airlines are seeking operational flexibility to ensure safe transport and evacuation when necessary.

Coordinated Efforts for Passenger Safety

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is collaborating with relevant authorities to provide additional arrival and departure slots. Moreover, Muscat International Airport is set to serve as an alternate stop for flights headed to various destinations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah. This strategic decision aims to enhance operational safety and flexibility for airlines amidst changing conditions.

Airlines have quickly adapted their operational plans. Air India and Air India Express are set to resume flights to Riyadh starting March 12, 2026. Additionally, Indigo will launch its Mumbai–Riyadh–Mumbai service on the same date. SpiceJet has been granted the necessary approvals for alternative airports to ensure safe operations. Akasa Air is also preparing to start its Mumbai-Riyadh-Mumbai flights, aligning its schedule with current operational conditions.

Ongoing Coordination and Passenger Advisory

The Ministry is keeping an open line of communication with airlines and stakeholders to ensure smooth passenger movement during this period. Furthermore, they are closely monitoring airfare trends to prevent unjustified price surges, ensuring ticket prices remain manageable for travelers.

Passengers are encouraged to stay informed by regularly checking with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight times and travel arrangements. The Ministry of Civil Aviation continues to monitor the situation, promising to relay further information as necessary.
