India Focuses on Holistic Health in Post-Budget Webinar

In a progressive vision for healthcare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently emphasized India’s commitment to enhancing its health infrastructure at the Post-Budget Webinar titled “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas – Fulfilling Aspirations of People.” During his address, he highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to establish a strong healthcare system as part of the Viksit Bharat initiative aimed at realizing a developed India by 2047.

Strengthening Health Infrastructure

Prime Minister Modi noted the significant advancements in India’s healthcare framework, with the opening of numerous medical colleges in various districts. He stressed the importance of a holistic approach to health, placing greater emphasis on wellness, early diagnosis, and accessible treatment. Through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and Ayushman Arogya Mandir, the government is working diligently to provide healthcare services to rural and underserved communities, ensuring that affordable care reaches every citizen.

Global Recognition of Traditional Healthcare

The Prime Minister also touched upon the growing global awareness and acceptance of India’s traditional healthcare practices. He pointed out that elements like Yoga and Ayurveda are gaining international popularity, contributing to a more integrated approach to health and well-being.

Emerging Opportunities in Healthcare Sector

As the population ages, the demand for skilled healthcare professionals is skyrocketing. Modi highlighted that an increasing number of elderly citizens will require caregiving, which presents an opportunity for youth in the job market. He urged experts to suggest innovative training models to equip the workforce to meet both domestic and global healthcare demands.

Digital Transformation in Healthcare

Another key point raised by the Prime Minister was the role of digital technology in healthcare, particularly telemedicine. He acknowledged the progress made but urged further enhancements in user experience and awareness to maximize the benefits of digital health platforms, particularly for those in remote locations.

Union Health Minister’s Insights

Spearheading the conversation, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, elaborated on the Union Budget 2026–27, which he noted, underscores a sustained commitment to bolstering healthcare systems and ensuring quality service accessibility nationwide. Nadda emphasized the necessity for a collaborative approach in modern healthcare delivery, involving doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals working cohesively.

Enhancing Mental and Emergency Care

Nadda committed to strengthening mental health services by announcing the establishment of a second campus for the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in North India. Additionally, he noted plans to elevate the Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi and the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health in Tezpur as regional leaders in mental healthcare.

Furthermore, he highlighted the critical need for improved emergency and trauma care services, particularly at district levels. Enhanced infrastructure and trained emergency personnel will be vital in providing timely life-saving interventions and alleviating the financial burden on patients’ families.

Collaborative Efforts for Effective Implementation

The Union Health Minister expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their invaluable insights and called for ongoing collaboration between states, institutions, and industry to ensure the successful execution of health initiatives proposed in the budget. Dr. Vinod Paul from NITI Aayog summarized breakout sessions focusing on scaling allied health professionals, training caregivers, and establishing regional medical hubs in the country, providing a clear pathway forward.
