Virasat Shakti: A Celebration of India’s Handloom Heritage and Women Artisans

The National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC), backed by the Ministry of Textiles, has launched the Exclusive Handloom Expo – Virasat Shakti, an initiative that not only celebrates India’s vibrant handloom legacy but also spotlights the important role women play in the sector. The event, inaugurated by Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner for Handlooms, marks a dual celebration as it coincides with International Women’s Day. Key figures, including Shri Rajiv Ashok, Managing Director of NHDC, and officials from the Ministry of Textiles, attended the opening ceremony.

Empowering Women and Artisans

The Expo – Virasat Shakti aims to create a supportive marketplace for skilled weavers and artisans from various parts of India. This event underscores the government’s dedication to bolstering the handloom industry while empowering female artisans whose contributions are vital in preserving and nurturing India’s traditional weaving art. As part of the celebrations, several women handloom weavers from different states were honored for their outstanding craftsmanship and significant influence in reinforcing India’s handloom sector.
