Enhancing Disaster Response: Seminar Unites Emergency Centers
In a bid to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 10-point agenda for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Ministry of Home Affairs has successfully conducted the 3rd Seminar on Integration with State Emergency Operation Centres (SEOCs). Under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, this initiative aims to achieve the ambitious goal of “Zero Casualty” during times of disaster.
The seminar’s primary focus was to create synergy among the SEOCs across all states and Union Territories (UTs), along with the various agencies that tirelessly work to mitigate the impacts of disasters.
Leveraging Technology for Effective Disaster Management
Participants gathered to discuss how technology can significantly improve the speed of critical information dissemination during disasters. Renowned scientists and domain experts from various organizations, including the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), India Meteorological Department (IMD), National Cyclone Warning Centre (NCS), and Central Water Commission (CWC), contributed valuable insights on disaster-related topics and early warning systems.
Additionally, a hands-on training session focused on the National Database for Emergency Management (NDEM 5.0) was organized at the Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response (ICR-ER). These interactive sessions highlighted strategies for anticipating disasters, mitigating risks, efficiently utilizing resources, and ensuring a smooth flow of information between central and state entities.
AI’s Role in Disaster Preparedness
The seminar also offered participants from all states and UTs a chance to explore cutting-edge technological advancements in disaster management. A dedicated session on Artificial Intelligence (AI) demonstrated its potential to transform the current approach, enhancing the effectiveness of all agencies involved in disaster mitigation and response.
Preparing for Future Challenges
An important topic addressed during the seminar was preparedness for the impending Monsoon 2026. This event provided a valuable platform for central agencies and representatives from states and UTs to foster collaboration, promoting a shift from a relief-centric approach to a proactive, prevention-oriented strategy for managing disasters.
