CSIR-NIScPR Honors Women in Science for International Women’s Day
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, the CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) hosted a special program on March 6th, focusing on the vital contributions of women in the field of science. The event, held in New Delhi, brought together a diverse group of scientists, researchers, and staff to acknowledge the essential roles that women play in scientific progress and national development.
Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director of CSIR-NIScPR, delivered an inspiring welcome address emphasizing the importance of promoting gender equality and empowering women within scientific research and innovation. She noted that women scientists are making remarkable strides across numerous scientific fields and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports women in science.
Spotlighting Women’s Contributions
The chief guest, Dr. Vibha Malhotra Sahwney, a distinguished scientist and Head of the Technology Management Division at CSIR Headquarters, provided an insightful presentation on “CSIR: Science, Technology & Innovation Development and Management.” Dr. Sahwney underscored the critical role of CSIR in propelling scientific research and innovation in India, while also highlighting the increasing participation and leadership of women across various science and technology sectors.
Empowering Messages from Leaders
An engaging presentation by Dr. Minu Chandra, Head of the Psychiatry OPD at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences, captivated the audience. In her talk titled “Give to Gain,” she discussed women’s capacity to thrive beyond traditional family roles. Dr. Chandra emphasized that women can balance family responsibilities while making significant contributions across sectors, urging them to recognize their strengths and pursue their dreams boldly.
Vigyan Pragati Special Edition
As part of the festivities, a women scientist-themed special issue of “Vigyan Pragati,” a popular science magazine from NIScPR, was launched. This special issue features exclusive interviews with renowned personalities such as astronaut Sunita Williams and India’s missile woman, Tessy Thomas. It also includes significant articles on notable women like Rohini Godbole and Gaura Devi, as well as contributions from various women science communicators.
The program concluded with an expression of appreciation for the hard work and achievements of women scientists and professionals. This event served as a powerful platform to honor the spirit, accomplishments, and resilience of women in science, reaffirming CSIR-NIScPR’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality and enhancing women’s roles in scientific research.
