UIDAI Achieves Milestone in Biometric Updates for Students

In a significant accomplishment, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has successfully helped over 12 million students across more than 103,000 schools complete their mandatory biometric update (MBU) for Aadhaar conveniently on their school campuses. This initiative marks a key development in ensuring that children’s identities are securely updated.

Launched in September 2025, the MBU drive capitalizes on a successful technology integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application. This collaboration allows schools to track which students require an MBU, making it easier to organize camps and ensure that no child is left behind.

UIDAI has been working closely with various stakeholders including state education departments, district administrations, and its ecosystem partners to facilitate this pro-children exercise. With around 4,000 biometric machines currently deployed, UIDAI is also looking to increase this number to improve the efficiency of the operation.

Updating biometric information in children’s Aadhaar is crucial, as it enables smoother authentication processes for accessing benefits from various government schemes, scholarships, and enrolling in competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET. UIDAI encourages parents and guardians to actively participate in ensuring that their children’s Aadhaar biometric data is current.

The ongoing MBU drive is free of charge for children aged 7 to 15 years, with the program being available for one year starting October 1, 2025. In addition to school camps, students can also update their biometric data by visiting any Aadhaar enrolment centers or Aadhaar Seva Kendras across India.
